We have tested the Alienware M15 R2 Gaming Laptop and here is our in-depth Alienware M15 R2 review. This is the new 2019 Alienware M15 R2 laptop with an Intel Core i9-9980HK processor. We have run games, Lightroom exports, Photoshop and in the process recorded thermals readings, we have overclocked the processor, we have undervolted the processor, recorded temperatures and we have a lot to talk about so watch this review and let us know what you think in the comments below.
The m15 r2 laptop is under an inch thick and weighs only 2.1 KG. We ran game tests at 4K (2160p, ultra), 2K (1440p, ultra) and HD (1080p, ultra) and you can see our average fps results in the review on games like Doom, Metro Exodus, Battlefield V, Apex Legends, Shadow of The Tomb Raider, Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice, Crysis 3, Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4.
If you have bought or are planning on buying this laptop, there are some tips here. For example, we can show you how to use the Alienware Command Centre to get the entire keyboard island to run cooler by tweaking the fan curves.
The display is 4K, OLED but 60Hz refresh rate but there are some issues with it when it comes to colour accuracy and calibration which we go into.
There are 3 variants available in India and important: for those of you hoping to upgrade the 8GB RAM on the base variant, please note that you cannot do this. The Alienware M15 R2 variants available in India only support a maximum of 16GB of RAM.
For you creators out there, know that RAM usage jumped up to 11 GB every time we batch-exported images in Lightroom so you may run into issues when you try exporting your photos or 4K videos on this machine.
If you can buy this from the US you have far more options but if you have to buy this from India then do note that these are not the best configurations available, at least currently at the time of publishing this review.

Worst Laptop I have ever ordered & worst customer service. At first I received my Alienware M15 R2 laptop. As received the touchpad isn't working at all. Dell replaced my laptop with Alienware M15 R3 – similar configuration. On the new replaced laptop – Motherboard as some issues. It doesn't even boot up. Shows up critical error – boot failure. I am not sure if they even check laptops before they deliver.
I dont get why you cant use it for competitive gaming you do get 240 hz refresh rate

Thanks for the in-depth review. I was looking at a Dell Outlet version of this system and decided not to purchase based on the temps you reported. Even though the CPU is said it will run at 100 I don't believe this is sustainable without impacting the system. I have found the OLED panels to not be usable due to the brightness issue you mentioned and also I have noticed they tend to dim and you have to reset to full brightness manually. I was looking at the 1080P variant for this reason.

Displays like OLED are difficult to manufacture with higher refresh rates. Usual LED displays with no backlight will do the job of higher refresh rates.

There are a lot of complaints on this laptop. This is a don't buy. One of the worst laptops I have ever purchased. Dell had to fix it two times for us plus we had to write a letter to the CEO. I can say one thing about dell is they fix it pretty damm fast. Overnight shipping to them and overnight back. About four days for a repair on a laptop. see my channel for more info. I have all the repairs on my channel.
Hi bro..pls i need your advice..im between buying the aleinware area m51 with 32 gb rams..or the alienware m15 r2 with 16 gb ram… my work is photoshop and adobe preimer i wont buy either of them for gaming ..only for photo and video contents… so which should i go with ??
