Update: Returned, due to freezing issues, see the pinned comment! Unboxing & first look at the new 2017 MSI Stealth Pro GS63VR 7RF, the revised Kaby Lake 7th Gen CPU Intel Core i7 7700HQ with Nvidia 1060 GTX GPU. There is also a 1070 GTX version coming soon (I’d be worried about fan noise and temps on that one!)
System spec:
Intel Core i7 7700HQ
Nvidia 1060 GTX 6GB RAM
512GB SSD SM961
2TB 2.5″ harddrive
1080p 15.6″ screen.
1070 GTX version that’s coming:
I don’t plan to game much on it, many for 4k video editing for the channel while I’m away from my desktop PC for a month in New Zealand. I would have gone for the Blade 14, but only importers have it and it’s much more expensive.

Update #2 (15th Jan) : This is being returned to the company I got it off, a shame as I do like it. Disabling the intel GPU seems to help with the freezing up issue. However a new issue with the keyboard now. 3 times now on different occasions my keyboard had keystrokes lock up on me. For example typing hello, resulted in hellooooooooooooo spamming "o" until I pressed another key. The design I like, the fans are off when not required, which I love. But millisecond lock ups are happening system and now the keyboard, with bloatware removed and forcing the dedicated GPU. I cannot justify keeping a laptop of this price with such issues. My return windows is 30 days, but I leave 5 days to travel, so it must be returned tomorrow and I'll search and get another 6600HQ or 7700HQ laptop with 1060/1070 for my 4k video edits on the go. I'm hearing better things with the GS73VR, but not sure if I should swap to ASUS, I do like MSI and my old MSI's where great machines.
Update: I might be returning this if I can't fix this issue. Every now and then the laptop will freeze for the second, the mouse pointer, keyboard everything. Like a micro stutter pause, not good at all and completely unacceptable on a laptop of this price. It's some kind of hardware issue with switching between the internal GPU and 1060 GTX. It's annoying as hell, I'm updating drivers and everything I can think of. If it can't be fixed it goes back before I lose the return period. I travel in 9 days, so I don't have time to be messing about with a replacement.
Its slim but the problem is it heats while playing when i placed it on my lap i couldnt afford ..the heating it was giving
thx for the review now i realy whant to buy it now
Happy owner of this laptop 🙂
did you ever figure it out? you mention "fans off, when not required which I love",,, any machine such as this, which are pretty much the same 2 years later, should never have fans off, at least one fan should be running, which even in eco mode, a fan is running, did you ever figure out the issue? i'd guess HEAT, if you are going to run "fans off", i'd dial it back to maybe 900mhz (maybe even disable a couple cores, lol), disable ded gpu, etc, and dial back the vid settings also for the onboard, the lockup though sounds also like it might just need a fresh install of os, did you ever figure it out? Sorry if I missed your "fix", kk
This laptop is good but only 6gbs of ram? That's nowhere enough to provide good performance, I'm going to get the stealth pro 229, it has 32 gigs of ram, and almost the same specs as this
Did you notice the P65 WARNING label on the box of this laptop ? I don't know why these companies are using materials that cause CANCER according to the state of california in the US
How Many ram it has
Your pros and cons make no sense.. I disagree with a lot of them.
Pros:
– No fan noise while idle…
That's not true at all.. This laptop is the most noisy computer I have ever owned even at idle temperatures.
Cons:
– Your dimension and weight claims are wrong
– Power cable on right? Who really cares.. I prefer to have it on the right since my outlet is on my right side… sooo it's a personal preference..
can yu pls teach me how to change backlight keyboard i just got msi gf72vr leopard pro model and i still dunnon which function apps i should download for new laptop.
this guy always returning
Carbon Based Lifeforms in your video… Love it.

hello
Another MSI laptop I reviewed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9VZ-aFLeME The much cheaper GL62M with i7 7700HQ (Same CPU as this one) But with a 1050 TI 4GB.
My POS, made in China vr63 crap worked for 3 days. Just long enough to get out on the road with it.
When I type, slight palm pressure to the right of the touch pad, more or less in the middle of the large flat area… causes the laptop to switch off.
Could be a fluke, but if you see more postings like this one, don’t buy one for sure.
I have this laptop. I love it. the only problem I have is the screen, you can view it on the side. but it's a gaming laptop anyway lol I run any games n it's smooth. there's a feature where you can use Economy energy, and a few more but what I use to game is Super, fan run and gpu to max performance. smooth gaming performance
6gb ram tf?

weight wise probably the lower end model
Can it game tho
Honestly I like the company. But I am seinor class president of my class and it doesn't look too pleasing for me to bring in a laptop with a red emblem with a dragon on it. I mean it just looks far too cheesy, nerdy (no offense), and ugly. This is why i would much rather go with a MacBook bc the build quality and the look and finish is completely beautiful. I understand MacBooks are much more expensive even though your not getting that much hardware. But I have been fortunate enough to live in a high class family so the cost isn't a problem for me but to others it would be. So in my opinion msi should definitely get rid of the emblem and make a much sleeker looking. Non plastic. More refined laptop.
so…you got no promotion bag or something?
how much u paid for this? I bought the msi TOO, very similar to yours. Only differences are gpu mine is worse gtx 1050 and no ssd. I paid 1100 euros. Eveything works smoothly and nicely so far. Only complains from my side are the touch pad is somehow not so nice and plastic as in your video is also quite soft. Also it doesnt have that premium look like my 3x cheaper acer aspire has.
I got mine for $1500 US dollars at best buy
Do the MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro come with any type of protection tor it ?
